So it's chapter 2 in my Life Lessons series and today is all about consistency. Everyone has heard that REALLY annoying saying "consistency is key". I swear it's one of the most irritating things every second rate trainer can tell you. ... but ... it's true nonetheless. Let me tell you why ....
Consistency in your nutrition and in your fitness routine as a whole is the key to reaching your goals. I train 7 days a week. All 7. "Well Adam don't you need "rest"? If your workout is about an hour long or even two hours long, what do you think you're doing the other 22-23 hours of the day?? Even if you're at your desk working (like I am now), you are still resting and recovering. There are exceptions to this rule obviously but for the most part, training everyday is not only a physical success but a mental success as well. If you are reading this as a strength athlete of some kind then rest days are surely built into your program but hopefully they are active rest days.
Consistency means all the time. Everyday. It doesn't mean you workout Monday - Thursday to prepare to ruin it Friday - Sunday. Train all of the days. You can still have a social life, it is one or two hours out of your day, you'll live. 35 years in fitness and 20 years coaching I have seen and heard of every program imaginable and in all of that experience the best way to reach your goal is consistency. Get your program, stick to it and do SOMETHING every single day. Weight train, cardio, walk the dog, do burpees in your living room, it doesn't matter. Everyday.
